Friends and family close to Nicole remember her tenacity, her dedication, and her spirit. Nicole Lynn Richardson was an endearing part of the Grand Junction Regional Office of the Colorado State Public Defender's Office and this website pays tribute to her memory as seen through her co-workers, family and friends.

RememberingNicole.com celebrates the life of Nicole by memorializing her pursuit to fighting the good fight for those who simply couldn't afford to pay someone to help do it for them. Her fight and dedication to the cause of indigent representation came to an abrupt halt in April of 2006.

RememberingNicole.com carries on her fiery redheaded spirit in the form of providing annual scholarships to attend one of the most impactful trial skills programs out there conducted by the Western Trial Advocacy Institute in Laramie, Wyoming (WTAI). Conducted by a tremendous range of legal and professional talent over a very intense 5-day period.

5th Annual Memorial Golf Tournament

WHERE: Scenic and challenging Lake Panorama National Golf Course located just north of Panora, Iowa. Take IA Hwy 4 North to the Church and Cemetery, turn west, and follow the signs to the course.
WHY: To honor Nicole’s memory by raising money to support her passion—legal advocacy for those less fortunate and unable to obtain those services for themselves--through:
The Nicole Richardson Outstanding Pro Bono Service Award given annually to a University of Oregon (Nicole’s alma mater) graduating law student who has shown that same passion throughout law school and intends to practice in the area of public defense following graduation.
The Colorado State Public Defender’s (Nicole’s employer) Nicole Lynn Richardson Scholarship Fund which funds tuition for public defenders to receive training at the Western Trial Advocacy Institute.
The Iowa Public Defenders Association to fund a Basic Training Program for attorneys working in the Iowa State Public Defender system.
The Iowa Donor Network, which is dedicated to the promotion and support of organ donation.

WHAT ELSE:

Tournament will be scramble format (4-person best shot).
Cost is $85 per person ($340 per team); includes greens fee, cart, box lunch & prime rib dinner.
Great flight, flag & raffle prizes and live and silent auction items.
$5,000 prizes awarded for all holes-in-one on any of four par 3’s during the tournament.

2nd Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament

The 2nd Annual Nicole Lynn Richardson Golf Tournament was an incredible hit this year! Over 40 golfers from Iowa, Grand Junction and Denver descended on the beautiful Thorncreek Golf Course in Thornton, Colorado. The Memorial Golf Tournament doubled what it raised last year with the enormous generosity of the teams, the hole sponsors and the work of Tony Anderson of Thorncreek golf course.

Congratulations goes to the first place team of "Shake 'n Bake" Kevin Holliday, Scott Holliday, Eric Ruiz and Nate Ruiz for blistering the 18 holes with incredible precision! Brooks Robinson led his second place team "Tourney Time" to a near repeat of their success of 2007. Brooks joined up with Josh Wobeter, Brian Welch and John Reid. Third place went to "Team Hawkeye" John Rowland, Jane Rowland, Neil Wright and Jolene Wright. Rounding out to the top four was the "Kramercia" team consisting of Ben Cohen, Dave Westmeyer, Jeff Cohen and Deonne Martinez.

A special thanks to all of the golfers, participants and support staff who made the 2nd annual Nicole Lynn Memorial Scholarship a huge hit!

But the Tournament would not be possible without the tremendous generosity and support of its sponsors. The Nicole Lynn Memorial Committee would like to recognize the following list of donors and sponsors who helped make the 2008 Tournament the success it was:

Special thanks to Tony Anderson who has taken care of us the past two years. Tony's went above and beyond to make sure all of the details were accounted for. He has been incredibly accomodating to us the past two years and he has a tremendous personality that goes stride for stride with his professional work ethic.

The NLR Memorial Committee would also like to recognize Dan Boonstra who made the trip from Iowa to join us this year in Thornton. For those that don't know Dan, he is close friends of Guy and Katie Richardson. He was going under dialysis treatment for one of his kidneys while waiting for a donor. Nicole would become his donor and it was wonderful to have him be apart of this year's golf Tournament.

Finally, special thanks to Guy and Katie Richardson for making it possible for bringing a touch of Iowa to Colorado. They've really done a tremendous amount of work behind the scenes to make sure that teams could come out from the Hawkeye State and to be apart of this incredible event each year.

3rd Annual Memorial Golf Tournament

The 3rd Annual Memorial Golf Tournament raised money for Nicole’s passion, advocacy for those less fortunate and unable to obtain those services for themselves (particularly children and families). An award (“The Nicole Richardson Outstanding Pro Bono Service Award) is given each year to a University of Oregon graduating law student who has shown that same passion throughout law school, and intends to practice in the area of public defense and pro bono work following graduation.

The tournament also supports the annual “Nicole Lynn Richardson Scholarship Fund to the Western Trial Advocacy Institute”, with funding going toward tuition for defense attorneys to attend this noted trial skills conference.

In addition we welcomed the addition this year of the Iowa Donor Network, which is dedicated to the promotion and support of organ donation. The State organization will have a visible presence, and we are pleased that also in attendance will be Dan Boonstra of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, who was the recipient of Nicole’s kidney through the organ donation process.

The 3rd Annual Nicole Lynn Richardson Golf Tournament originally started in 2007 in Colorado by Nicole’s friends and colleagues, the tournament moved this year to Iowa. It was held at the scenic and challenging Lake Panorama National Golf Course located just North of Panora, Iowa on July 10, 2009. Great Prizes and Silent Auction Items, $5,000 Hole In One Prize, Prizes on other par 3 holes as well as “Flag” prizes, Green Fee, Cart, and Prime Rib Dinner were served following play.
